What do you do on those days when you really need to get going on the work that is waiting for you on the to do list but all you really want to do is run away?
It’s hard to find the discipline especially for a creative job when you need to ‘feel it’ in order to proceed with the tasks. Despite some visual motivational cues, and some stern words with oneself, it’s not always easy to let go of the feelings of despair and lack of motivation to apply oneself to the tasks at hand.
Taking a few moments to journal and express how you feel, something that isn’t meant for sharing necessarily but that gets some of the inner turmoil out into the open. This can be helpful in two ways; once written down the spectre is no longer trapped in one’s head growing every larger, and secondly, the simple act of doing something may make the required actions of the work that awaits seems less onerous. Action is possible once the first step is taken.
There is a whole series of these little journals, to clear the air and the mind. Finding a place for them in future may be relevant but for the moment, simply take the activity for the release that it gives.
Side note: the sound of busy typing also gives the impression of activity, giving you time to breathe and to pull yourself towards yourself, to in fact get going.
Give it a go. You’ve got this. The write thing with lead to the right thing and all will be well.
Have faith.
